Sometimes seedlings that looked healthy yesterday begin to behave completely unpredictably.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh gave an example: the leaves of seedlings, which pleased the eye with their rich green color, can suddenly change color.
They may change color to yellow, which often happens with a lack of nitrogen or iron, or they may even turn red.
It should be noted that redness primarily affects tomato and eggplant seedlings, the shade of whose foliage sometimes turns into a soft purple.
Causes of reddening of seedling leaves
There are many factors that influence the fact that seedlings decided to change their appearance. We have collected the most common of them.
1. It is possible that the purple leaves of the seedlings may be just a varietal feature.
2. Redness is caused by both weather conditions, when the air temperature drops sharply, and by mistakes made by gardeners in care, such as excessive watering.
3. The leaves also turn red because the soil for the plant was chosen incorrectly – too acidic.
4. The final and perhaps most important reason lies in the lack of nutrition, primarily phosphorus.
