After sowing carrot seeds, you need to keep a close eye on the shoots, especially if this is the first bed with root vegetables in your entire gardening life.
It is important to distinguish between normal development of greenery and violations. In particular, the root crop may begin to deform, become crooked, and the greenery may curl. Such a vegetable by definition cannot be tasty.
What happened to the carrots
The culprit is the leafhopper, one of the fierce enemies of this vegetable. There is another parasite - the carrot fly. But it damages root crops.
The carrot psyllid prefers to live in leaves, and does not disdain other representatives of the umbelliferous family - dill, parsley, celery or parsnip.
To prevent the spread of the pest, the carrot bed should be located away from trees.
The pest larvae feed on plant sap, causing the tops to become curly and the fruits to become tough and tasteless.
In advanced cases, it will be necessary to carry out chemical treatment with the preparations "Confidor Extra", "Decis", but no later than a month before harvesting.
In other cases, tobacco solution comes to the rescue.
It is prepared from tobacco and water, mixed in a ratio of 1:10. To make the solution sticky, 30 grams of liquid laundry soap should be added.
Infuse for 24 hours in the dark at room temperature. Can be used until harvest.
