The potato planting season should begin in the coming weeks.
At the end of April and the beginning of May, summer residents will plant a popular garden crop, trying to protect it as much as possible from diseases and lack of nutrients.
One way to increase the chances of a high potato yield is to add some fertilizer to the hole.
Popular methods include adding ash, eggshells or bird droppings.
However, some gardeners also put a few beans in the hole. This is not done just like that. Using such an additive gives an interesting effect.
The meaning of the procedure
If you put a few bean seeds into the hole, as well as some unburned wood debris, the potatoes will most likely receive good protection from a pest that is often found in garden beds.
We are talking about the Colorado potato beetle, which poses a serious danger to potatoes, as well as to other representatives of the nightshade family.
Experienced gardeners have long noticed this pattern: if, when planting a garden crop, there are beans at the bottom of the hole, then the insect is unlikely to appear in the potato bed.
