Many gardeners ignore this rule and then wonder why the seedlings die.
Cucumbers are heat-loving plants. Before sowing, you need to make sure that the soil is warm enough.
In April, it may seem that ideal conditions for planting cucumbers have been created.
But often the warmth is replaced by a long cold spell. As a result, the seeds rot and become damp right in the ground.
Disinfection of seeds
At the very beginning, the planting material should be disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The seeds are kept in it for about 20-30 minutes.
Temperature
The right time for sowing cucumbers comes when the soil has warmed up to 12 °C. But not on the surface itself, but at a depth of 8-10 cm.
Protection from cold snap
To protect the seeds in the spring, plants are grown in insulated beds. Sawdust and other organic materials are also used for this purpose.
When growing in a greenhouse, summer residents use a little trick. They light a gas burner or put 1-2 containers with mullein in the greenhouse, which releases carbon dioxide during fermentation.
