Cacti are spectacular plants that even novice gardeners can take care of.

However, a problem often arises – cacti do not bloom. But even those who love these succulents for their unusual appearance still dream of seeing blooms that amaze with their beauty.

Is it possible to make a plant bloom? Yes, it is possible. And it is easier to do than it seems. But first, you need to understand some nuances.

Features you should definitely know about

First, you should find out whether your cactus blooms at all. There are species that do not bloom in captivity. There are also species that bloom only in youth, others, on the contrary, only in adulthood. Some species bloom after 20 years of life, and others are able to please the owner with gorgeous flowers every year.

Mammillaria is distinguished by its abundant flowering - an easy-to-grow and abundantly flowering type of cactus that can be purchased at any flower shop.

Care Features

If you have a blooming cactus, the reason for the lack of flowering is in the care. Here it is worth remembering that each plant needs a natural habitat. And an attentive gardener should imitate the natural environment as accurately as possible. For a cactus, this is poor rocky soil, moderate soil moisture, which alternates with a long period of drought. That is, the plant needs to organize a desert in a pot.

To do this, you should water the plant moderately and regularly in spring and summer, feed it with special mineral fertilizers. And starting in October, completely stop watering and feeding, and put the pot in a cool place (12-16 degrees).

Since there is always a lot of sun in the desert, the cactus should be grown in good lighting. Even in winter, it will have to be kept where there is a lot of light. Despite the fact that the plant is in a period of rest and all growth processes slow down, sunlight is extremely important for buds to appear by spring.

If it is not possible to keep the pot in a cool room, you should place it as close to the window in the room as possible. You can even insulate the pot from the warm air from the room with foil or other material. Foil is good because it reflects the light from the window.

At the end of February, the cactus can be "awakened" by moving it to a warmer room and watering it with warm water. When the buds appear, water more abundantly and feed it with a special fertilizer several times.
