Sandy soil is not considered fertile. It does not retain moisture well and does not contain enough nutrients.

Some crops do not take root in such conditions, only carrots are not among them. They can be grown on sand.

A few tips will help you get a good harvest.

Seed preparation

It is necessary to disinfect the planting material to prevent diseases. You will need to prepare a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, put the seeds in it for half an hour, and then rinse and dry them.

An alternative to this method is to warm the seeds in water at 50 degrees for 15 minutes.

Treatment with Sporobacterin will help. To prepare a solution, take 10 grams of it and dilute it in 10 liters of water.

Soil preparation

In autumn, when the soil is dug up, organic matter must be added. It must be dug in to a depth of 20-25 cm. At the same time, phosphorus and potassium preparations must be added. For 1 square meter, 30 grams of superphosphate, 15 grams of potassium sulfate and 15 grams of urea will be needed.

You just can’t add manure before planting, because it will ruin the carrots: they will quickly spoil and their taste will be bitter.

Planting carrots

You need to make furrows in the bed, place the seeds at a depth of up to 3 cm. The distance between them should be 5 cm. If you place them more often, then after the emergence of shoots you will need to resort to thinning. After planting, the bed needs to be watered, covered with spunbond.

In the future, care for carrots on sandy soil will include watering, fertilizing, loosening, disease prevention and treatment, and pest control.
