Can seedlings grow strong without a phytolamp: the benefits of supplementary lighting and what other options are there

For many summer residents, the season begins in January-February, when the first seeds are sent into the soil.

In winter there is still very little sun, the day is short. But seedlings need more light for normal development.

When there is not enough light, plants stretch out, get sick and may die. Some people just wait until the day gets longer. Some people look for the most illuminated areas in the house. Others buy phytolamps for seedlings.

Some gardeners believe that this is a waste of money: they say that an amateur gardener has no need for it. Plants absorb the pink-violet color of the lamp better than the usual white. Less electricity is consumed per unit of illumination. However, in the end, the savings will be insignificant.

It is possible to grow seedlings without additional lighting, but planting should be started not in January, but in the second half of February, when there is more daylight. In general, it is possible to cope without additional lighting, but sometimes plants are capricious and want more light.

If there is no phytolamp and there are no plans to buy one, then you can limit yourself to temporary measures. For example, seedlings can be illuminated with regular daylight lamps, tubular or LED. This will also be enough for seedlings.

There is a little trick - reflectors. With their help, the light will not be scattered around the room. Reflectors can be made of foil or other similar material. Then even daylight will be even more beneficial for seedlings.
