When faced with bark beetles, not all summer residents raise the alarm, believing that nothing terrible is happening.
In fact, bark beetles are very dangerous for fruit trees. The beetles damage the bark and can destroy not only young plants, but also older ones.
Why are bark beetles dangerous?
The beetles make many holes in the trunk and introduce mycelium and spores of wood-destroying fungi into the tree wounds.
Bark beetles "carry" them with them for the sake of their larvae, which feed on rotten wood. Young trees die very quickly, adults can resist longer.
What to do
Trees on the site need to be inspected periodically. If holes (1.5-2 mm in diameter) and a "pinch" of sawdust next to them appear on the plants, then we are talking about bark beetle activity.
If there are many such passages, it is advisable to cut down and burn the tree, leaving nothing. It is important that all pests that have turned the plant into their "home" are destroyed, and not move to neighboring plantings.
If there are few holes and the bark beetles have only just begun to destroy the apple or pear tree, then you can save the plants.
Using a syringe, inject an insecticide, such as "Aktara", into the passages. The product will kill the beetles almost immediately, preventing them from continuing to destroy the tree.
