In early spring, strawberries expect attention from the gardener, and therefore, as soon as the snow melts and the soil dries, it is necessary to apply the first portion of fertilizers.
First, you need to prepare the bed and bushes. To do this, you need to get rid of dried and damaged foliage, old mulch, and excess tendrils.
There are several preparatory steps that precede the introduction of nutrient compounds.
1. First of all, tidy up the beds. Get rid of the autumn mulch, extra tendrils and damaged shoots.
2. Then carefully loosen the soil between the rows so as not to damage the roots, and if necessary, hill the bushes. In this case, you need to make sure that the growth point is not covered with soil.
3. Next, you can add fertilizers designed to stimulate growth. As for the timing, depending on the climate, they can range from late March to mid-April.
Fertilizing strawberries
At this time, nitrogen-containing additives are introduced. This can be:
- urea, the solution is prepared at the rate of 1 teaspoon per 10 liters of water (consumption 0.5 l per root);
- nitroammophoska (the solution is prepared at the rate of 1 tbsp. of fertilizer per 10 liters of water, consumption 0.5 liters per bush);
- ammonium nitrate (applied at the rate of 10 g per 1 square meter between rows, and then embedded in the soil);
- mullein (the solution is prepared at the rate of 2 glasses per 10 liters of water), here also add 1 tbsp. of sodium sulfate (consumption of 1 liter per root);
- chicken manure (1 liter of fertilizer per 10 liters of water and let it sit for 3 days - consumption 0.5 liters per root);
- compost is added in dry form, evenly distributed under the strawberry bushes.
