Florists may sometimes notice insects appearing in flower pots.

Soil gnats really do often pester pots with houseplants.

Their population grows rapidly, as individuals can lay larvae in the soil as soon as it is watered.

The midge is not deprived of food. For this, it is suitable for the products of rotting plants.

Why does a mosquito appear?

  • Due to improper watering and over-watering of the pot.
  • Stagnant air at the roots or in the room.
  • Infected substrate. Purchased soil may contain insect eggs, so it should be calcined before replanting the flower.
  • Midges can be transferred to house flowers from rotting fruits and vegetables. If there are often such in the house, then they become the primary cause of this trouble.

How to solve the problem: 4 options

  • For one problematic pot you will need 3-4 matches. They are stuck into the soil with the sulfur head down and watered. The sticks are changed for new ones daily until the insects disappear.
  • Dissolve 10 g of laundry soap in 200 ml of water and spray this liquid over the surface of the infected plants. The procedure is repeated every 4 days.
  • Dissolve 1 tablespoon of 3% pharmacy hydrogen peroxide in 500 ml of water. Water the soil with the concentrate and spray it on the leaves.
  • One packet of ground cinnamon is poured into the pot and the soil is loosened. The strong aroma of the spice will repel insects.
