If you want to please yourself with an excellent onion harvest during the season, then you need to buy sets for planting now. And it's not just that the price is lower in February.
The main advantage of such an early purchase is that the seed material can be dried well. As a result, it will not bolt, which will have a positive effect on the quality of the harvest.
You need to put the onion in a net and hang it next to the radiator or put it on a stool nearby. The temperature should be about 27-30 degrees. Periodically, the net with the onion should be turned so that the onion dries evenly.
To find out that the onion sets have dried well, we try to separate the husks from several onions; if they separate well, then this is an indication that the procedure was completed successfully.
After this, the sets need to be sorted. All rotten and damaged seeds will have to be removed.
The sorted onions should be placed in a box in one or two layers, and then placed in a dark cupboard. It is important that the temperature is not higher than 23 degrees.
Just before planting, you will need to warm up the seed onions again.
