When brown spots appear on the fruits, leaves and tops of tomatoes and potatoes, and then they turn black, this means that the plant is infested with late blight fungus.
To protect plants from being infected with late blight, preventive measures must be taken in advance, and not when the plant is already sick.
The first treatment on nightshade crops is carried out before flowering, the second and subsequent ones throughout the growing season of plants every two weeks.
List of the best methods for combating late blight.
Ash
Ash can be made from wood and various plants.
Before and after planting the plants in a permanent place, in a greenhouse or in a vegetable garden, sprinkle the soil or the rows of crops with wood ash. During the period of fruit setting, tomatoes really need potassium, which is found in ash in large quantities. Therefore, carefully sprinkle the bushes with ash. For foliar spraying, dilute the ash with water and add a little liquid soap.
Iodine solution with milk
To kill germs and speed up the growth of nightshade crops, spray them with the following solution every 14 days: dilute 1 liter of any milk in a bucket of water and add 15 drops of iodine alcohol tincture.
You can buy Trichopolum tablets at a pharmacy. Spray the plants on the leaves every 14 days with a solution of 1 tablet per 1 liter of water.
Homemade kefir
Leave a liter of kefir to ferment for two days. Then dilute it in a bucket of water and treat the plants throughout the summer season once every 14 days.
Sea salt
Dissolve 1 glass of any salt in a bucket of water and treat the vegetables with this solution, but remove the damaged plants the day before.
Garlic and potassium permanganate
Take 100 grams of garlic shoots, leaves and cloves. Grind in any way, pour a glass of water over the garlic gruel and leave to infuse for 24 hours. Then strain, pour into a bucket of water, add 1 gram of potassium permanganate and treat the plants every 2 weeks. Consumption rate: 0.5 liters per plant.
Baker's yeast
As soon as the first signs of late blight appear on plants, treat them with the following solution: dissolve 100 grams of baker's yeast in a bucket of water.
Horsetail
To boost the immunity of tomatoes and potatoes, prepare the following decoction: boil a liter of water on low heat, add 150 grams of fresh horsetail or 100 grams of dry horsetail and let it boil for half an hour. Add this decoction to 5 liters of water, cool to a warm state and spray it on garden crops every 2 weeks.
