Eggplants require special conditions for growth, development and fruiting. In addition, this crop reacts capriciously to transplantation.
Among the diseases it suffers from is black leg. But if you know when it is best to sow seeds for seedlings, you can avoid these and other troubles. Here is what the lunar calendar advises.
Before you start sowing, you need to study the recommendations of the seed manufacturer. Then proceed as follows.
1. Select the largest seeds; it is better to plant the smaller ones in a separate container.
2. Check the selected material for germination. To do this, dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt in 0.5 liters of water and add the seeds. After 10 minutes, begin to discard. Anything that floats to the surface is thrown away, and the seeds that settled on the bottom are left for sowing.
3. Before planting, disinfect the seeds by placing them in warm (40 degrees) water, to which you need to add 3-4 ml of hydrogen peroxide. Keep the seeds for 10 minutes before sowing.
Planting dates
This indicator largely depends on the variety. Eggplants can be early, mid-season or late.
Early ripening varieties ripen in 105-110 days from the moment of emergence. Medium ripening varieties ripen in 115-125 days, and late ripening varieties ripen in 140 days.
It follows from this that seedlings of early varieties should grow indoors for 65 days, medium varieties for up to 70 days, and late varieties for 75 to 80 days.
Lunar calendar
This month, you can have time to sow eggplant seeds on February 24-26. In March, 1-3, 24 and 25, as well as March 29 and 30 are suitable.
