A specialist has dispelled the myth about a popular product that supposedly not only repels but also kills Colorado beetles.
It is better to find another way, otherwise time and effort will be wasted, and it will not be possible to save the potatoes from the pest.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti , agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained which product is not worth wasting time on.
Not all summer residents are in a hurry to use "chemistry" to combat the Colorado potato beetle. Therefore, they use fragrant wormwood, tree bark, soap solution or moonshine. The arsenal of folk methods is quite extensive, but not all of them are so effective.
The specialist pointed out that such methods can work if the insect is still small. An adult beetle is not afraid of pungent odors. Its diet includes poisonous potato tops, so these means will not scare it or kill it.
You can change the tactics of fighting the pest. You need to act at the initial stage. It is enough to spray with water the small larvae of the insect, which it lays under the foliage of potatoes.
