Rarely do summer residents practice this method of growing beets and more often sow seeds in the ground.

But the seedling method has its advantages, and it is worth knowing about it. At the very least, this trick can help out if the summer in the new season is cool, which will affect the beet harvest.

Beet seedlings. Advantages

Beet sprouts in the garden react painfully to low soil temperatures (below 8-10 degrees Celsius). It should be remembered that it will take about 4 months for the crop to fully ripen.

It is important to take into account the timing: without picking, seedlings are transplanted into the ground after three weeks. With picking, transplantation is carried out after 1.5 months.

Before sowing, the seeds are soaked for 10-15 minutes in a saline solution, disinfected for 15 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate, and then washed in clean water. Then you can keep them in a solution of "Epin" for 6 hours. After all the procedures, the beet seeds are germinated by placing them in a damp cloth and putting them in a warm place (20-23 degrees) until sprouts appear.

Sowing is carried out in purchased soil with a slightly acidic or neutral reaction.

The seedlings are watered frequently, but in small portions, preventing moisture stagnation in the soil and trays.

You also need to provide the beets with plenty of light, using additional lighting.

The room temperature should not fall below 8 degrees Celsius.

They are fed twice - after picking and when the tops close - with mineral nitrogen-containing fertilizers.

Transplantation into open ground

They are carried out in early May on previously prepared beds (dug and fertilized). The sprouts are transplanted together with the earth lump so as not to damage the roots.
