One of the main pests in the cucumber bed is the spider mite.

This is a small greenish-yellow insect, 0.3-0.5 mm long. The larvae are only 0.12-0.13 mm in size.

Spider mites live not only on cucumbers, but also on zucchini, pumpkin, beans, beets, and weeds (nettles, bindweed, etc.).

The pest reproduces at high temperatures (+29 …+31 °C), so it penetrates into the soil, where it can produce up to 10 generations per season.

Ticks like to spend the winter in dry grass, under plant debris, straw and other warm and cozy places.

How to Fight Spider Mites

First of all, you need to get rid of weeds in the garden bed and around it. After harvesting, cucumber vines should not lie in the garden until spring.

For prevention, the greenhouse is treated with a 1-2% solution of formalin or bleach. And the pests themselves are eliminated with a decoction of tomato leaves or an infusion of wormwood.
