The key to a rich harvest is strong and resilient seedlings! But in order for them to please us, we need to know the basic secrets of proper watering.
Mistakes can result in the death of tender shoots. It is important to note that abundant and insufficient watering are equally harmful!
It is also necessary to find out the individual needs of different types of plants and follow the following rules.
Rule number one
The seedlings will need water that has been standing for 2-3 days at room temperature. Cold water can cause black leg disease in young shoots. If you need to water urgently, you can use a filter. It is not advisable to use melted and rain water, as it contains harmful impurities.
Rule two
During the period before the emergence of shoots, watering is not performed, since the seeds are in a humid environment and covered with a film. If the soil has dried out slightly, you can moisten it from a spray bottle. Lift the cover and spray carefully.
Rule three
After the emergence of shoots, you need to try to prevent the root system from rotting and mold from appearing. Therefore, you should water carefully, without flooding. It is better to underfill than to overfill.
Rule number four
A syringe or a teaspoon will be indispensable. Use them to water the seedlings in small portions between the rows and along the perimeter. This will allow the moisture to be distributed correctly.
Rule number five
After picking, the seedlings are watered at the root. If the air temperature is 22-24 degrees and there is no direct sunlight, it is enough to water the sprouts three times a week. When the room is hot and the radiators are very hot, watering can be more frequent.
Rule six
It is necessary to take into account the capacity where the seedlings are planted. For example, in peat cups the soil dries quickly and the seedlings need more water. It is advisable to add vermiculite to the soil, which absorbs excess moisture.
Rule seven
Morning hours are the best time for watering. Photosynthesis occurs during the day, and the seedlings actively absorb moisture, saturating each cell. If you water during the day, the young shoots will not have time to absorb minerals and will weaken.
Rule eight
Dry watering will be very useful. Careful loosening of the soil will help the roots to be enriched with oxygen and the soil will not become compacted. For this, you can use garden tools for house plants or a regular toothpick.
Rest assured that by following these simple rules, your seedlings will reward you with a good harvest!
