One of the biggest disappointments for gardeners is seeing a pear tree in bloom and expecting the harvest to break all records.
There are two main reasons why there is very little fruit in the end.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti , agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why a pear can produce a weak harvest.
Temperature changes
Frosts may occur during flowering. A sharp drop in temperature can cause serious damage.
In this case, only those flowers that were less damaged by frost do not die.
The youth of the tree
The plant does not have enough resources to form many fruits. It has enough strength for abundant flowering, but for the next stage it becomes much less.
As a result, the pear produces exactly as many fruits as it can grow. The rest of the flowers are dropped to the ground.
Therefore, experienced gardeners are in no hurry to make a forecast based on the tree's flowering. It can often be abundant, but only 20-30% will survive to the next stage of development.
