You can start planting onions when the garlic planted for the winter reaches 5-6 cm.
Garlic can serve as a guide that the soil is ready for planting onions.
Before planting, the onions need to be sorted and disinfected in a solution of ammonia. The solution is prepared at the rate of: 2 tablespoons of 10% ammonia per 2 liters of water and leave for 10 minutes. A weak solution of manganese is also suitable: 3 g of powder per 1 liter of water and leave for 2 hours.
How to plant onions correctly
Rows 20-25 cm wide are made on the bed. It is better to prepare the soil in the fall, but this does not always work. In the spring, before planting onions, you can add 500 g of ash per 1 square meter.
Sprinkle a natural soil deoxidizer into the rows and you can start planting onions.
Small onions are planted at a distance of 5-6 centimeters, medium or large ones - 8-10 cm at a depth of no more than 2 cm. With greater depth, the shoots will appear much later.
Onions can be planted in a plot where cucumbers, potatoes, and cabbage used to grow. It is better not to grow onions after garlic and carrots. If carrots are next to an onion bed, there will be no onion fly.
Onions will start to bolt if planted in cold soil. Delayed planting is also not good for onions.
By following these planting rules, you can harvest a large crop of large heads this season.
