It's not easy for gardeners to get rid of a weed that outlived the dinosaurs.
Unlike many weeds, horsetail looks pretty, resembling a miniature pine tree.
But in the garden, it is not the decorative properties that matter, so summer residents try to get rid of weeds in a timely manner.
Horsetail is of particular interest. The plant's root can reach 1 m. It is difficult for other crops to compete with such a plant, so they need the help of a summer resident.
Digging does not solve the problem radically. Chemicals do not help much either. Therefore, wise gardeners use other tactics.
Horsetail does not like alkaline soil, but feels great in acidic soil. Any slope towards alkaline soil is a serious blow to the weed. Summer residents sprinkle the soil with dolomite flour, ash, chalk to reduce the acidity of the soil.
In beds where there is a lot of horsetail, experts advise planting cruciferous plants. Only they can push out the weed. Cabbage, radish, mustard, arugula are plants that have a depressing effect on horsetail.
