Tulips can be grown on a windowsill in winter if you follow basic recommendations.
Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at the technology and some advice from experts.
How to choose a bulb
Everyone should understand that tulips are geoephemeroids, which have a dormant period in summer. The bulb can have different shapes.
As practice shows, under each bulb there are from 1 to 6 scaly leaves. In each axil there may be one bud, less often there are two.
When selecting a bulb for planting, it is necessary to examine it carefully. If there are mechanical damages or signs of disease, it is better to refuse planting.
The bulb size should be medium. It is pointless to use too small or too large planting material for winter planting.
Which pot to choose
The size of the peas is always determined depending on how many bulbs will be grown. The depth of the pots should be from 15 to 45 centimeters.
For growing, you can use regular flower pots, they are easier to choose, so there should not be any special problems in the future. An important condition: the flowers should not be cramped, otherwise there can be no talk of normal growth.
Suitable soil
When choosing soil for growing tulips, special attention should be paid to the composition. Many people use universal soil for indoor plants, but here everything is not so clear. The mixture should contain:
- vermiculite;
- perlite.
Some people use soil from their plot. The solution may seem logical, but here you should pay attention to the growing conditions. It is better to select special mixtures, then no difficulties should arise.
How to plant correctly
The planting technology differs from what many gardeners are used to. The sharp end of the bulb should be directed upwards.
The bulb must be pressed in carefully; using force can damage the protective shell and cause various problems.
The distance can be minimal – 2-3 centimeters. There is no particular sense in making a large distance, although this will not be a mistake if there are free pots that can be used with benefit. If we consider small bulbs, their planting depth is up to 8 centimeters. Large ones are planted at a depth of 15 centimeters.
How to care
There are currently no special rules for caring for tulips. It is enough to control the soil moisture and add moisture in a timely manner if the situation requires it. You can also follow the rule: the more bulbs, the more often you need to water.
If we consider fertilizers, then they are not necessary if the soil is chosen correctly, although there will be no mistake in their application.
