Tulip is considered the first spring flower, if you do not take into account the branches of mimosa. But not all flower growers know whether they can be planted at this time of year.
There is an opinion that spring is not the best time to plant tulips, but this does not mean that you cannot do so.
Timing of planting tulips
Many years of experience and observations show that if you want tulips to bloom in the spring, the bulbs should be planted in the fall. During the cold season, they will go into hibernation and prepare for flowering. But if you store the planting material indoors, in a relatively warm place, there may be no flowers.
How to Plant Tulips in Spring
It will take some work. There is also an important point - the soil must be prepared for this plant. Preferably in the fall.
Planting dates
No one can give exact dates, but it is not difficult to determine the right time. You don’t need to look at the calendar – as soon as you manage to make a hole in the soil, you can immediately plant tulip bulbs. This can be mid-March or early April. It all depends on the weather.
Where to plant bulbs
Tulips will like to grow on the southern or southeastern side of a plot or building. It is important that the soil there is properly warmed, but light shade will not hurt.
What to add to the hole
A special nutrient mixture will provide growth, development and flowering. You will need 1 kg of ash and 200 g of slaked lime for preparation. Or at least ash. The components are mixed, and the finished mixture is added to the soil before planting the bulb.
It is important that roots have already formed on the bulbs at the time of planting.
After planting, watering is carried out. In dry weather, the flowerbed is watered every other day. The rest of the time, as needed.
When seedlings appear, additional feeding will be needed.
However, it will be much easier to plant tulips in the spring, previously sprouted in pots. They are simply taken out of the containers and carefully immersed in the hole together with the soil lump.
