A white-blue coating on the surface of the soil in which seedlings or houseplants grow is a sight familiar to every summer resident.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what factors provoke the appearance of mold in pots and containers.

The most common reason is banal over-watering of the soil due to overwatering.

The absence of a drainage layer/drainage holes can also influence the appearance of unwanted "fluff". If there are holes in the bottom of the flowerpot, check if they are clogged.

Sometimes the presence of such a component as manure in the soil also influences the appearance of mold.

Sometimes mold does not take long to appear if pots with plants or containers with seedlings are not sufficiently illuminated by the sun.

Of course, the high humidity in the room, as well as the lack of ventilation and airing, also contribute to this.

If you use tap water for watering, do not forget to let it stand for at least a day.

Finally, the reason may be compacted soil, so you should not forget about loosening. The procedure should be carried out with extreme care.
