Colonies of ants settle on a site for quite a long time if they are not dealt with.
However, to overcome these insects, you need to spend a lot of time and take a comprehensive approach.
Ants are primarily beneficial insects that bring great benefits to your garden plot:
- feed on caterpillars and other pests;
- They benefit the soil by saturating it with phosphorus and potassium.
However, unfortunately, they also cause a lot of harm:
- spread "herds" of aphids throughout the entire area;
- They dig endless tunnels in the ground, ruining garden beds along with flower beds and lawns.
Ant killers mainly contain chlorpyrifos and diazinon. The effect of these preparations lasts from 2 to 17 weeks.
The most popular existing products are: "Grom-2", "Muratoks", "Antimuravey" and others. They are produced in granules, as a gel or powder, water emulsion or concentrate, in the form of very effective traps.
Of course, you can also use natural remedies.
- These insects do not like strong odors, such as the aroma of anise leaves when mixed with crushed garlic cloves and kerosene.
- They cannot stand the smell of wormwood and parsley.
- A mixture of tobacco dust, oil, tomato leaves and turpentine is successfully used against ants.
- They can also be drowned in water, because ants are poor swimmers.
