After currant bushes have fruited, they should be pruned so that they can prepare for winter and form more fruit buds.

Perform sanitary pruning after the berry harvest is complete.

First, you need to cut off diseased, damaged, old and thick branches on the bushes using sharp pruning shears; you shouldn’t expect a harvest from them next year.

These branches have a characteristic brownish bloom that can be easily recognized among others.

Then cut off the one-year-old shoots that have grown in the center of the bush, as well as those branches that have fallen to the ground.

And the strong and powerful current shoots, which should be left to rejuvenate the bush, should be shortened by 5-8 centimeters.

This type of pruning will allow the currant bush to produce more flower buds.

If diseased leaves appear on the bushes, pick them off by hand. It is best to do this in the fall.

The main thing is that the red currant sheds its leaves on its own, otherwise it will experience stress.

Cut the young shoots that you cut into cuttings and use them to propagate new young bushes. Add the leaves to marinades and pickles.
