What crops are harmed by excess ash?
Firstly, ash shifts the soil pH towards neutrality, so it is not suitable for crops that prefer high acidity. These include, in particular, sorrel and radish.
Secondly, you need to be extremely careful when using ash as a remedy against aphids when growing melons.
Excess ash can disrupt the water balance of the soil, and watermelons will begin to crack and rot.
Doesn't like ash and potatoes very much. You can add a little when planting, but it's not worth it later.
It is also not recommended to use ash when growing conifers, ferns, hydrangeas, rhododendrons and cinquefoil.
