There are several ways to store such a valuable fertilizer as manure during winter.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about one of them, known as anaerobic.
This means that during storage, air access to the manure will be limited. The cold method has both disadvantages and advantages.
For example, among the advantages are that nutrients are better preserved and nitrogen losses are minimal. The disadvantage is that decomposition occurs more slowly: semi-rotted manure can be obtained after 5 months, and fully matured - after 8.
If you decide to use this method, you will need to clear a suitable area for storing manure and line it with plastic or fill it with a layer of clay and compact it.
The next layer consists of straw (can be replaced with peat). Its thickness should be approximately 0.3 m.
Once the preparatory work is completed, you can begin laying down layers of manure, each of which must be properly compacted with a shovel.
Layers of manure 0.5-0.6 m thick should alternate with plant residues.
On the last row of manure, peat, earth or grass should be placed (the layer should be at least 0.4 m thick). Then the pile is covered with film, and after snow falls - with snow.
