Paradoxically, employees need the approval and support of their immediate supervisor no less than children need the approval and support of their parents.
If you are a manager, please, no matter how difficult it is, do not forget about this in the process of your work.
"How do I do this?" you may ask. Just follow these rules.
Talk to your employees more often about their work.
Praise them for what they have done particularly well. Review the mistakes they have made together. Motivate them every time you give them a new task. Remind them at such moments of their successes on previous projects.
Tell them how others appreciate their work.
These others may include clients, contractors, colleagues, heads of related departments, senior managers, etc.
For example, you might tell your employees that a colleague from another department asked you to thank them for a job well done.
Let them know about the good wishes of counterparties and gratitude of clients.
All this together will help employees feel their value, importance for the company and will motivate them to further success.
Give them the opportunity to grow professionally
Challenge your employees. If they are looking to grow and develop, push them out of their comfort zones – trust them to solve more complex problems. This is the best way to say, “I know you can do more.”
Give them a voice
Allow employees to share their ideas, make suggestions, teach new things to their colleagues. This way they will feel needed by you and the company.
Earlier I talked about how to properly organize a change of profession.
