EDB explains how early harvest affected Belarus' GDP

Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank have noticed a slowdown in the growth rate of the Belarusian gross domestic product.

The relevant information is presented in their traditional weekly review of the situation in the economies of the countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The report was published on the official Telegram channel of the financial institution.

According to published data, Belarus' GDP increased by 4.9% over the first 8 months of this year, while over the first 7 months the dynamics were higher – plus 5.5%.

Experts say the reason for the slowdown in growth rates is the volume of production in the republic’s agriculture.

According to their data, growth in this area fell to 7.2% in January-August after 17% in January-July.

In turn, the reason for this decrease in growth rates in the EDB is the early start of the harvesting campaign - the grain harvest significantly exceeded last year's level in June-July, and was significantly lower in August.

Analysts call industry the most important driver of the Belarusian economy.

It provided 2% of GDP growth against the backdrop of production growth of 7.1% in the first 8 months of 2024, following growth of 7.5% in January-July of the same year.
