How to criticize subordinates

Most work moments cannot be done without criticism, but it must be correct, below are some tips on how to correctly criticize subordinates.

Criticism should be personal, and therefore you should not put the person in an awkward situation in front of other employees, since in this way you humiliate him.

Invite him into the office and never raise your voice, you must speak strictly but calmly so that your interlocutor can understand his mistakes.

Before you start the conversation, be sure to prepare and find out your subordinate's opinion. Explain the situation to him from your point of view and listen to what he says to the end, perhaps his explanation will convince you.

Do not compare your subordinate with anyone, because each person is individual, try to focus on the work and be sure to point out that it was done poorly, so that your subordinate does not get the impression that he is bad.

Keep an eye on the time, criticism should not exceed 5 minutes of conversation, then the information begins to be perceived with some indignation and aggression, and therefore many subordinates begin to argue and a conflict arises.

Do not allow yourself to use rude and offensive words, in general, when working with each person it is necessary to speak correctly. Try not to use jargon and any street phrases.

To motivate your subordinate to correct his mistakes and shortcomings, at the end of the conversation, remember any situation when you praised him, and simply say a few pleasant words, for example: “I know that you can do much better.”

If you adhere to the above rules, you will always have warm relationships in your team, and your employees will listen to your opinion, which will have a positive effect on work results.
