Bright yellow, mint, soft pink — these colors are considered fashionable, but there is one shade that is guaranteed to ruin any space. Designers call it “hospital beige.”
Psychologist Dr Rebecca Robins explains in Well+Good: 'The colour is associated with hospital walls and creates a subconscious anxiety.'
But the worst is acid green. A study in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that it increases anxiety by 40%.
Designer Bobby Berk suggests: "Switch it to olive or khaki—they're calming and go with any decor."
Salvation for those who have already made a mistake
Stick removable wallpaper with a large floral print. Tempaper offers options with peonies and orchids.
Add textiles in deep shades - burgundy, emerald, mustard.
Use warm light fixtures (2700K) to “warm up” cool tones.
Life hack from the pros: before painting, hang a large sheet of paper with a color sample on the wall.
Look at it in the morning, afternoon and evening and appreciate the difference in color rendering.
And if you feel like experimenting, try a gradient.
Designer Jonathan Adler used the transition from terracotta to cream in the cafe project: “Guests say it’s like the sunset is always in the room.”
