Many young people consider the furniture that was used to furnish Soviet apartments to be outdated and do not want to see it in their homes.

But, according to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino, some interior items popular in the USSR can become a stylish and original addition to the decor of a modern apartment.

One of them is a sideboard that was in demand in Soviet times. We will tell you what needs to be done to harmoniously fit it into a modern design.

How the sideboard was used before

The sideboard, or as it was also called, buffet, was equipped with open shelves or glass doors.

Families usually kept figurines, photo frames, books, certificates of honor and, of course, dishes in it – most often, expensive sets stood on the shelves, which were taken out only on special occasions.

The sideboard served as a kind of showcase where household members displayed their most valuable things.

What to do with the sideboard now

If you want to keep the sideboard in your apartment, the old piece of furniture needs to be restored.

Don't be alarmed: there is nothing complicated about this process. All you need to do is remove the old cracked varnish and repaint the sideboard.

Choose a color that will harmoniously fit into the interior of the room. If the living room or dining room is decorated in bright colors, make the sideboard neutral. If white, milky, beige or light blue shades prevail, the sideboard can take on the role of a bright accent.

In addition to painting, you can also add lighting to the furniture - as a result, the "exhibits" on the shelves will certainly attract the attention of guests.
