If you inherited an apartment from elderly relatives, don’t be upset by the abundance of “grandmother’s” things in it.
If you use your own imagination, creativity and advice from the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", designer Yulia Tychino, even such things can be turned into interior decoration.
Today we suggest talking about herringbone wooden parquet, because, according to professionals in their field, even worn parquet is better than linoleum or laminate.
If you take a little time to tidy up the parquet, it will become a wonderful addition to the interior of any apartment, regardless of the style in which it is decorated – classic, Scandinavian or minimalist.
Therefore, when moving into a Khrushchev-era apartment, do not rush to change the flooring. Instead, consult with specialists, and if they give the go-ahead, start restoring the parquet.
How to restore parquet
You will need a sanding machine, with which you will need to remove the layer of old varnish or paint from the parquet.
Carefully inspect the coating to detect fragments that have lost their attractive appearance. Broken, cracked fragments, as well as those on which other defects were noticed, must be replaced.
To eliminate gaps, use a special silicone solution for parquet.
All that remains is to cover the floor with glossy or matte varnish, which should be applied in several layers. Alternatively, you can use oil.
If you don't like the shade of your parquet, repaint it in a different color.
For reference
Parquet is a type of wooden flooring.
