Open shelves are a trendy interior element, as they perfectly fulfill their function of storing items, but at the same time do not clutter up the space.

There is only one downside: it is not so easy to place things in open spaces. There is a risk of creating a feeling of incongruity and clutter with your own hands.

Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino shared advice, thanks to which your open shelves and the items standing on them will not spoil the interior, but will become a real decoration for it.

Vertically and horizontally

If you use shelves to display books, don't just line them up horizontally. You can also leave vertical stacks on the shelf, which will create dynamics and make the structure look more interesting.

Not just books

The shelves of the rack can also be used as a place to store other things: dilute the books standing here with photo frames, vases, figurines, candles and other nice little things so that the shelves look bright and beautiful, and not boring and faceless.

Heavy things - down

It is recommended to place heavy (both actually and visually) items on the lower shelves, and light ones on top, so as not to weigh down the composition.

It is better not to store massive encyclopedias on the upper shelves, placing them closer to the floor. Small decorative elements such as figurines, books with bright covers and magazines will look good at eye level.

Regular cleaning

If you feel like something is wrong with your open shelf, it’s probably time to start cleaning. Sometimes, tidying up is the easiest and most effective way to transform your furniture. Pay special attention to the area at eye level, as it always attracts attention.
