Why there shouldn't be additional partitions in a studio: 3 alternative ways to zone an apartment

If you have a large and spacious studio apartment at your disposal, no one will stop you from dividing the space using partitions.

However, in a small area, designer Yulia Tychino, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, advises against using this type of zoning.

This is due to the fact that any wall (even if it is plasterboard or in the form of a screen) reduces the useful area of the room, and as a result, you no longer live in an apartment, but in a cramped box.

What to do? It's simple: replace the rigid zoning options with softer visual ones. You will find three worthy examples in this article.

Furniture

If the sofa, armchairs and coffee table match each other (they don’t have to be from the same set), there’s no need to highlight the seating area in any other way – it will be noticeable even in an open-plan room. All you have to do is highlight it with a rug that matches the style.

Color

This zoning option can rightfully be called the simplest, most win-win and successful. To implement it, you will need to highlight the wall behind the desk, dining area or bed in a different color and add a few more details to the room that have the same shade.

For example, if you have chosen an emerald color for the wall, hang curtains of the same shade or paintings in which green predominates.

Textile

Want to hide your bed behind a wall? How about creating a niche to accommodate it? A canopy or a cornice with curtains around the perimeter of the bed will help you with this.
