Decorating a small living room often becomes a problem for apartment owners, because they need to solve several problems at once: make the room beautiful, make it look interesting, visually enlarge the space and not clutter it.
Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino, spoke about the solutions that should be followed in order to create a harmonious and complete interior, without visual noise.
The Three Color Rule
The color ratio that all interior designers adhere to is 60/30/10, where 60% is the main color, 30% is the additional color, and 10% is the accent color.
Here's an example: if you've chosen beige as a base, paint the walls, floor, and decor in it - curtains and pillows. Give a third of the palette to dark sandy shades: let the armchair, cabinet, and coffee table be done in this color, and leave the accent emerald for the patterns on the carpet, the vase on the shelf, the book covers on the rack, and the pillow on the armchair.
Combination of different textures
To visually make a small living room more spacious, combine different textures in the decor. Let the chairs be velvet, the lamp - glossy, and the carpet and napkins on the table - wicker.
As a result, the room will look much more interesting.
Don't overdo it with decor
Give a large accessory the main place in the interior - let a carpet, a houseplant in a large flowerpot, a mirror or a painting be in the center - this element should be visible from any corner of the room.
The rest of the decor should be smaller in size and less flashy. For a small room, 5-6 accessories are enough.
Previously we talked about decorative joining of floor coverings.
