Everything changes – even those design techniques that previously served as the basis for a stylish and functional interior, over time give way to other design options.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino, named solutions in living room design that have already become quite boring.
Plants on the windowsill
If plants require sunlight, there is no other suitable place for them in the apartment. However, if your indoor plants do not have special lighting requirements, you can experiment with their location.
Small plants can be placed on shelves, racks, and even in the bathroom if they tolerate high humidity well, and for larger ones, find floor pots to leave them in the living room.
Symmetrical paintings above the sofa
Unless your apartment is minimalist, be prepared to fill the walls with decor. However, simply placing a few paintings above the sofa may not be enough.
Try to follow the designer's advice and regularly update the decor in the room, thereby making it play with new colors. Thanks to modern fastening systems for paintings and posters, you can change the wall composition at your discretion without drilling the walls. Experiment with placing canvases asymmetrically, use non-standard approaches and follow your intuition.
Sideboard or shelving unit
A massive furniture set or a sideboard with glass doors in the living room is always associated with the past. Even a more modern open shelving unit that takes up an entire wall limits space and makes it difficult to move around.
Instead, try separating decorating and storage tasks. You can hang wall decor, such as a series of posters, a large painting, shelves for books and plants, and for storage, choose a compact chest of drawers that won’t take up much space, won’t visually overwhelm the room, and will hold more than a set of dishes.
