The era of carpets on the walls has gone, and then suddenly returned. Now it is not so much an era that is leaving, but a real era.
According to professionals, skirting boards are a thing of the past, and now all attention is focused on floating walls.
Yulia Tychino, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" in the field of design and interior, told what a house looks like without baseboards.
Skirting board – is that it?
Initially, the baseboard appeared as a necessity. It was a thing that protected against dust and dirt.
Then they began to think about the external appearance of the structure.
A little later, the baseboard underwent a "restyling" and became truly functional, after it became possible to lay wires in it and even install floor sockets. But now all this is no longer relevant.
What are floating walls?
The effect of the vertical plane being “separated” from the horizontal plane is achieved by the absence of the usual floor skirting board.
This can be achieved thanks to the particular installation of finishing materials on the walls, which leaves a gap at the bottom of the wall.
To emphasize or focus attention on the effect, lighting is installed in the resulting cavity.
Why is this necessary at all?
Some might say that this is nonsense, because the cost of the repairs would be the same as buying an ivory skirting board.
However, the designer's new product is designed to change the perception of space.
The supposedly hovering walls seem lighter, the space open, and the images bright, etc. And how can one not remember the dynamics and emphasis here.
In general, there is no need to talk about any practical and functional advantages of floating walls above the baseboards. With the exception of the visual effects already described.
Otherwise, the new product has yet to pass the test of time for durability.
