Sofas are almost always placed close to the wall. But there are good reasons to abandon the traditional furniture placement.
Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino, explained why you need to move the sofa away from the wall.
To zone the space
The high back of the sofa is a kind of obstacle with which you can divide the room into functional zones.
To engage the wall
If the sofa is pushed against the wall, you have no choice but to hang a poster or painting above it. Conversely, if there is free space between the furniture and the wall, you can use it to, for example, install a console table here, which will become a place to store remote controls, gadgets, magazines and other small items.
Alternatively, place a home library, shelving unit or built-in closet here.
To lay it out conveniently
Any sofa that needs to be folded out to be converted into a sleeping area should not be placed close to a wall.
To ensure that the space near the wall is not wasted, consider placing this piece of furniture in the center of the room or turning it with its back to the door or window.
