Secondly, these must be natural materials.
Thirdly, the item needs to remain functional despite its age.
How to avoid buying a fake
The main task is to distinguish a hand-made item from an industrial product. There are several features here.
1. If there is a fringe, then in hand-made carpets it will be a continuation of the base of the carpet itself, and not sewn along the edge.
2. The next thing to pay attention to is the size. They say that handmade carpets are not always symmetrical. That is, when folded, the corners may not match.
3. Pay attention to the back side. If it is handmade, the front and back sides will be approximately the same in color and content.
But a carpet woven in a factory can only be distinguished by its color – its back side is not as bright.
And the last thing to do when choosing a vintage carpet is to check it for holes and damage. If the item is made of natural material, then it could probably have been damaged by moths, and this can no longer serve as decoration.
