One of the most important nuances in renovation is wall finishing. It directly determines what your apartment will be like – light, cozy and comfortable or gloomy and tasteless.

Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino spoke about unconventional options, and also outlined the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.

Panels

This type of finishing is characterized by simplicity, practicality and ease of maintenance. If any part is damaged, it can be easily replaced. The panels do not require perfectly smooth walls - on the contrary, they will help you hide existing flaws. There are many materials for panels - gypsum, glass, bamboo, PVC and MDF, and the color range is very diverse - stores offer a wide palette for every taste.

However, the panels also have a disadvantage – they can reduce the space due to the bulkiness of the structure, so they are only suitable for spacious rooms.

Decorative plaster

This material is available in various colours and textures, allowing the plaster to create an uneven surface, a glossy effect or imitate various natural materials – depending on the interior style and your preferences.

The advantages of plaster are its environmental friendliness, durability, ease of installation, cost-effectiveness and ability to hide wall unevenness. It fits perfectly into any interior, is easy to clean and is resistant to most cleaning agents.

However, using plaster in large quantities can create an atmosphere of "officialdom", so give this type of finishing the role of an accent. And also - if you choose this material, keep in mind that its application should be done by a professional, since working with plaster requires certain skills and experience.

Decorative brick

Decorative brick is versatile, environmentally friendly, fireproof, and easy to install. However, it is difficult to maintain due to its uneven surface, and the voluminous tiles can visually reduce the space, which is unacceptable in small rooms.

Brick is especially well suited for the loft style, which requires a high-quality imitation of old masonry. However, do not overdo it with its use, so as not to get a semblance of an unfinished English factory.

Earlier, the expert explained why you can’t make the floor in an apartment black.
