What Plants Can Replace a Christmas Tree: Designer Tips

If you want absolutely everything new on New Year's Eve, you can try to give up the Christmas tree - artificial or real.

Instead, you can dress up your indoor plants. There are five alternative options.

Yulia Tychino, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" in the field of design and interior, told us which plants can be decorated instead of a Christmas tree.

Fir

A good option. There are almost no differences. You can buy a plant in a tub and then plant it in your garden.

It won’t be possible to keep a fir tree in the house for long – its size won’t allow it.

Poinsettia

The plant is also known as the "Christmas Star". It is often used by Europeans and Americans. It blooms just at the end of December and will bloom every New Year.

But the plant needs a lot of sunlight, and the air temperature should not be lower than 20-24 degrees Celsius.

Mandarin tree

You might as well dress up a fruit-bearing lemon. There are few disadvantages, but they are significant.

Firstly, the fruits will ripen for more than six months. Secondly, the plants need careful care.

Ardisia

Or "Christmas berry". Red berries appear just on New Year's Eve. Does not require special attention, but is afraid of cold, drafts and needs backlighting.

Schlumbergera

And what kind of holiday would it be without a "Decembrist". The plant is popular in our latitudes, but during the flowering period you need to be prepared for whims.

Therefore, it is better not to touch, move or stress the Decembrist unless necessary.

Earlier we talked about how to decorate your interior with candles.
