There was a period in the life of every former Soviet citizen when either ostentatious luxury or minimalism with bright and bizarre objects burst into the decor of living spaces.
Many of them should have ended up in a landfill or a dacha at best long ago.
1. Giant Print
These can be kitchen aprons with flowers, fruits or space photographs. In the bathroom, fish, ships and exotic landscapes could freeze in the tiles for several decades. In the living room or bedroom, an evergreen birch grove can ring on the wallpaper. It may be cozy, but stylists do not think so. Laconic and harmonious design, without sharp transitions in space, is in fashion now.
2. Wall or furniture set
Neither. No one will reproach a modern owner of a residential property for the fact that the coffee table will be from one set, and the chest of drawers or wardrobe from another. There is no need to even talk about upholstered furniture.
3. Luxury
Baroque, Empire, Rococo or Classicism – all this is no longer for typical apartments, especially ascetic Khrushchev-era apartments, where, as they say, “it’s cramped, but not offended.” The best options are moderation and minimalism, or discreet classics.
4. Figurines
Elephants or girls at the fences took on the functions of decor a long time ago, when children wore blue school uniforms and pioneer ties. If the figurines are dear as a memory, you should not put them on public display. Otherwise, the same minimalism.
5. Neon
Somehow, this idle element from night clubs has moved into apartments and houses without being noticed. Nowadays, such lamps and lighting seem out of place and even alien.
6. Massive chandeliers
And in the old days, a multi-tiered chandelier, under which everyone taller than average had to bend and bow, seemed gaudy. You can't even take one like that to the dacha, which is a real tragedy for many housewives. Today, laconic forms are chosen.
7. Lace and frills
As they say, it's a matter of taste, but modern citizens try to decorate their homes with Chinese bamboo and jute mats instead of handmade and elegant napkins.
8. Artificial flowers and fruits
Once upon a time, it was not shameful to present such a thing for a housewarming party, but not anymore. Now only natural things are in fashion. Plastic and synthetics are an anti-trend.
9. Stretch ceilings
The moment is certainly controversial, because sometimes this is the only chance to fix everything that the builders did not do. In this case, you should not choose floating clouds, comet trails and the Milky Way, but opt for a light and matte material.
