In Belarus, from the first day of next year, state theaters will operate on the principle of equal share financing of expenses.
This means that the creation of new performances, tours, payment of housing and communal services and operating costs, and payment of salaries will be carried out not only from budget funds, but also from the theaters’ own income (on a parity basis – 50% to 50%).
The corresponding decision is contained in decree number 422, signed on November 18 of this year by Alexander Lukashenko.
Additional support
According to the Presidential press service, additional state support will be provided to theaters for the period of their renovation work.
In particular, in this case, these cultural institutions will be provided free of charge with other premises owned by the state.
In addition, during the specified period, utilities and transportation used by theaters for their needs will be paid for from the budget.
It is reported that this decree is aimed at:
– ensuring the stable operation of theatres under conditions of equal financing;
– more efficient use of budget funds;
– improvement of repertoire policy and activation of creative activity.
How they worked in 2024
Let us recall: in the past year, domestic theaters worked according to a financing scheme that provided for 60% of budget funds and 40% of their own funds.
However, the implementation of routine and major repairs, the purchase of equipment and some other components necessary for the operation of the theaters were fully financed from the budget.
