Known to many tourists who have ever been to Thailand, the local soup with shrimps, tom yum kung, was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this following a meeting of the UNESCO intergovernmental committee.
The event, which took place in Paraguay, was dedicated to the protection of intangible cultural heritage.
The Foreign Ministry believes that the decision taken will contribute to “international recognition of the culinary wisdom of Thai communities,” TASS reports .
Thai diplomats describe tom yum kung as "the embodiment of a food culture based on observing and learning from nature."
This soup, they say, reflects a simple and self-sufficient lifestyle, yet one that provides “numerous health benefits.”
From a culinary point of view, tom yum sung is a hot and sour soup based on chicken broth with shrimp.
There are variations of it, for example, it can be with chicken, fish, seafood.
By the way, the soup is a national dish not only of Thailand, but also of Laos.
