Nowadays, in any grocery store there is such an abundance of tea that your eyes simply run wild.
Sometimes it is almost impossible to find tea without special additives: we are offered drinks with the aroma of herbs, berries and fruits.
But in Soviet times, such luxury was not observed, recalls Yulia Arkhipova, a culinary expert for the online publication BelNovosti.
That is why some people tell a curious fact that is surprising. It is about cooks adding soda when preparing tea.
What's the point?
It is important to remember that at certain times tea was a scarce commodity and not available to everyone. However, it could be tried in a canteen, cafe or during a train ride.
In order to save money, cooks added soda. Thanks to this, the tea becomes stronger and tastier.
There is an opinion that such an unusual method will “reanimate” the tea leaves even if you want to brew them several times.
The taste of the drink does not become worse: on the contrary, it is believed that the tea turns out more delicious and vibrant.
