There is a common belief that instant coffee is made only from low-quality coffee beans.
This is a misconception. The basis for a product is always high quality.
“But then what explains the difference in price?” many coffee lovers will probably ask.
The answer is simple: the cost does not depend on the quality of the beans from which instant coffee is made, but on the technology used to create it.
There are three types of product: powder, granulated and freeze-dried. The latter is usually more expensive.
Powdered instant coffee
This product is made in the following way: first, the beans are cleaned, roasted and crushed.
The next step is to treat the resulting mass with high-temperature water. The powder is filled with liquid in containers under pressure.
The result is an aromatic extract. It is subjected to low temperatures and filtered. Then it is dried with hot air.
Granulated instant coffee
The first stage is the same as in the previous case. And then the powder is processed with steam.
Freeze-dried instant coffee
All the steps are carried out as when creating powdered coffee.
However, the difference is in the final stage. The product is dried not with hot air, but with ice-cold air.
The resulting mass is then crushed. The result is a high-quality product.
The creation of this type of instant coffee is a very complex process. This explains the high cost of the product.
