If you are tired of oatmeal, it is time to diversify your menu. For example, with oatmeal cutlets.
They are very easy to prepare.
Option one: with fried vegetables
- 1 cup of oatmeal;
- 1 medium onion;
- 2 cloves of garlic;
- 1 large carrot;
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
- 1 egg;
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs;
- salt and pepper to taste.
Cooking principle
1. Start by soaking the oats in boiling water for 10-15 minutes to soften them. Then drain them in a colander.
2. Finely chop the onion and garlic. Fry them in vegetable oil until they turn golden brown.
3. Add the finely grated carrots to the pan with the onion and garlic. Fry over medium heat until the carrots are soft.
4. In a large bowl, mix the oatmeal and egg. Add the fried vegetables, salt and pepper to taste. Mix all the ingredients well. If the dough is too runny, add breadcrumbs (or flour).
5. Form patties about the size of your palm.
6. Fry the cutlets in vegetable oil over medium heat until they are golden brown on both sides.
Option two: with potatoes
1. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 cup of oatmeal and leave to swell for 15 minutes.
2. Grate raw potatoes on a fine grater. You should get about 1–1.5 cups.
3. Finely chop the onion. You can use garlic passed through a press. Or you can use both onion and garlic, if you like both ingredients.
4. Mix all ingredients until smooth. Add your favorite spices that you put in meat patties.
5. Fry in a frying pan, just like regular cutlets.
What is important to remember
1. For cooking, take flakes that require cooking. "Hercules" is ideal.
2. If the cutlet mixture turns out to be liquid, you can add flour or semolina to make the cutlets denser.
3. It is good to add greens to the cutlets. Such an addition will make them not only tastier, but also healthier. This can be spinach, young shoots of nettle, arugula, young radish leaves. And also aromatic greens - parsley, dill, cilantro.
4. If you are making a version with fried carrots and onions, try frying finely chopped cabbage along with them. This will give the dish a taste similar to cabbage rolls.
Ready oatmeal cutlets can be served with a vegetable side dish or sauce to taste.
