When making a sleeping place for their long-awaited baby, parents often buy a hard mattress, a soft blanket and a comfortable pillow.
At the same time, they don’t even think about whether such a pillow is needed for newborns.
At the same time, orthopedists and pediatricians claim that a healthy newborn baby does not need a pillow to sleep.
The reason is in the anatomical features of the child's body structure - his head is larger than the width of his shoulders, so when the child lies on his side, his ear touches the mattress, and his neck is in the correct, straight position.
Important: Although experts do not recommend using a baby pillow in a crib, special pillows can be useful when walking in a stroller or when feeding.
But let's get back to the sleeping pillow.
Doctors do not recommend using a pillow until the age of two, as the child may accidentally bury his/her head in it and suffocate. Alternatively, you can use:
- folded diaper. A soft cloth, such as flannel or muslin, is folded and placed under the baby's head;
- a roll of towel. It is placed under the mattress so that the child can sleep comfortably.
Earlier we talked about the role that fairy tales play in a child’s life.
