Even small but daily consumption of alcoholic beverages can have a negative impact on the human body.

One glass of beer or one glass of wine a day puts you at risk of developing serious problems.

Not just serious, but, as the latest scientific research has shown, associated with the development of over a dozen dangerous diseases.

At the same time, the same daily dose of alcohol can protect against some other diseases.

From diabetes to oncology

The scientists analyzed dozens of other similar studies by colleagues around the world.

They found that people who drank even one alcoholic drink a week had an increased risk of developing around 19 diseases compared to those who did not drink alcohol at all.

Among the diseases that can be acquired as a result of a daily “date” with alcohol, scientists name cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Doctors say that, in principle, there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.

According to them, the less alcohol a person drinks, the lower his risk of death, but the more he consumes, the higher this risk.

Conventional standards for safe alcohol consumption in the United States are considered to be no more than two drinks per day for men and no more than one drink per day for women.

Cancer, heart

Scientists say these limits need to be revised.

If only because, as the study showed, men who drink one alcoholic drink a week have a 16% increased risk of colon cancer and a 6% increased risk of esophageal cancer.

And if men drink more alcohol – up to 21 drinks a week – these risks increase sharply.

For women, drinking three drinks a day increases the risk of throat cancer by 90%.

Scientists have refuted the popular belief that moderate alcohol consumption is good for the heart – it just doesn’t increase the risk of such diseases compared to those who don’t drink alcoholic beverages.

However, it was found that alcohol does not significantly affect the risk of coronary heart disease.

The likelihood of this depends more on factors such as obesity, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity.

Stroke and Mortality

People who drink alcohol in moderation every day have a lower risk of stroke, according to a study.

This is explained by the fact that alcohol helps thin the blood, thereby reducing the likelihood of blood clots that can get to the brain.

Among people who drank one alcoholic drink a day, the risk of stroke was 10% lower than among those who did not drink.

But drinking two drinks a day increases the risk of stroke in men and women by 8%.

According to the study, men and women who consume more than 7 alcoholic drinks a week have a 1 in 1000 risk of dying from alcohol.

For those who drink more than 9 drinks weekly, the risk is 1 in 100.
